In the globalizing world of today, it is necessary that if  a product is to be competitive, it should be cost effective with the quality of the product meeting the changing consumer needs and wants. Productivity of APCC countries over a period from 1969 to 2004 mostly range from bad to fair classification and a few countries come under moderate classification. Ways and means of improving productivity through selection of quality planting material, meeting the nutrients requirement of coconuts, organic recycling and adoption of cropping / farming systems are dealt with in detail. Short, medium and long­ term strategies are suggested to improve the productivity and sustainability of vibrant coconut industry.
