The paper outlined keys areas of involvement and assistance of FAO to coconut. As FAO has a special interest in smallholder farmers, Coconut is well placed in FAO’ s activities as coconut is largely produced by smallholders. The paper highlighted various programme and projects where FAO provides financial assistance and also plays supervisory role. FAO has funded a number of coconut related projects in areas such as germplasm conservation, information development and dissemination, pest management and poverty alleviation of coconut farmers. FAO assistance to the coconut industry is aimed at enhancing and preserving productivity, improving smallholder incomes and livelihoods. FAO has a long-term commitment to coconut and always seek ways to assist coconut smallholders.
