Poverty Reduction In Coconut Growing Communities
COGENT proposed a research project entitled 'Developing Sustainable Coconut Based income Generating Technologies in Coconut Growing Communities with the objective of increasing incomes of coconut farmers and socio-economically disadvantaged women in 15 major coconut growing countries. The Asian Development Bank is currently funding the project in eight countries and others donors are being tapped to fund the project in other countries Under the project, sustainable community based models will be organized in each country to increase incomes of resource-poor farmers and socio-economically disadvantaged women, and promote the effective on-farm conservation of coconut genetic resources. The eight countries where the project has commenced are Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. The project is being implemented in three selected communities in each country, thus totaling 24 coconut growing communities
