Strategic Efforts Taken In Vietnam To Make Coconut Industry Globally Competitive
There has been a reduction in the area devoted to coconut because of replacement of senile and underdeveloped trees with miscellaneous fruit trees which are considered more proritable. The coconut holdings being small are not benefited from intensive farming techniques. As such, the productivity is low. The domestic price of coconut is often influenced by the demand from China. Generally, the prices rule higher than the international prices. Although oil refining technology is quite modern, machineries for producing other value added products are yet to be modernized. In small coconut holdings intensive intercropping with fruit plants is being encouraged to augment on-farm income, A study has been proposed for external support in the areas of consumer demand and marketing for activated carbon, desiccated coconut and coconut milk.
