Various constraints are experienced by the coconut industry in Samoa. Low productivity and the consequent low on-farm income, lack of processing facilities, inadequate know how of technologies and the fluctuating prices of copra are the limiting factors in the progressive development of coconut industry. Presently, there are research gaps in coconut based farming systems and production of value added products including fibre based products. The future strategy assigns importance to productivity improvement industry transformation, stability in the supplies of coconut products, coconut based farming systems, community level processing and promotion of local and export marketing.
