Tissue culture  of coconuts in the Philippines towards the development of a clonal method  of propagating the highly heterozygous coconut palm is still in its infarn . Embryo culture  how ever, particularly the Makapuno coconut has been worked out and has now been adopted commercially. Constraints such as the lack of funds to sustain a project to a considerable length of time to achieve a breakthrough, not to mention  the high degree of secrecy  of the progress of the work, are matters  that hinder the faster development of the technology in the country.
