Pest Management In Coconut Based Farming System

Intercropping coconut with high value crops to increase farmer income has long been practiced in the Philippines. However, pest management in such coconut-based farming system has received little attention until recently. Various pest management approaches and alternative are discussed for both insect and rodent pests. The major insect pests dealt with are Oryctes rhinoceros. Tirathaba rufivena. Promecotheca cuminqii and several species of slug caterpillars belonging to the following genus: Setora. Thosea. Darna. Parasa. ChalcQscelis and Penthocrates. The practice of coconut-based farming system encourages biological diversity (blotic and structural) and microclimate complexity that favors reduced pest problems.
