Intercropping older coconut is a traditional practice in the South Pacific. The system is based on some rotational pattern, where the land under coconut is continuously intercropped for 2 or 3 years and the land is fallowed for at least 3 years. This practice is limited in scope in that during the fallow period, the land is not cultivated thus allowing weeds to effect coconut production i f proper husbandry i s not adopted. However if limited intergrazing is adopted during the fallow periods the land under coconut could be more productively used so that its productivity is increased.
