Cocoa - Coconut Systems In Malaysia
The cocoa-coconut intercropping system has been adopted widely within the coconut holdings in Malaysia. The system has significantly improved the productivity from coconut smallholdings. Slight modifications of the existing coconut planting practices are needed when it is intercropped with cocoa. The crucial factor being its planting density as this is related to the shade requirements of cocoa. Various other agronomic requirements of the cocoa crop itself, in as far as the cocoa- coconut intercropping system is concerned, are highlighted in the paper.
