Sequestering Carbon & Sustaining Earth: Harnessing the Potential of Coconut Ecosystems
We are honored to announce an international seminar themed "Harnessing Coconut Potential for Offsetting Carbon Emission - Integrating Science and Economy for a Sustainable Future." This collaborative endeavor between the ICC and the Faculty of Agriculture at UNSRAT seeks to underscore the coconut industry's central role in climate change mitigation. By merging scientific research with economic strategies, the seminar aims to investigate the capacity of coconut cultivation for carbon capture, targeting not only a sustainable future for the planet but also amplifying global sustainability measures. Such efforts can contribute significantly to the economic advantage of coconut-producing countries. As an additional gesture of acknowledgment, this event will also mark the esteemed 63rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture at UNSRAT. The seminar is scheduled to take place from 12-14 October 2023 at the Peninsula Hotel in Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Objectives

Highlight the potential of coconut plants as a valuable resource for carbon sequestration and its relation to climate change,

promote and encourage further scientific research and practical initiatives focused on utilizing coconut plants as effective alternative for carbon sequestration,

explore the mechanisms of carbon credit, including the potential benefit to Member Countries, and

establish a network and collaboration of organizations, universities, policymakers, and experts devoted to promoting the use of coconut plants for carbon sequestration.

Established in 1969, the ICC is an independent intergovernmental organization which consists of 20 member countries and accounts for 85-90% of the world production of coconut. The ICC member countries are: the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kiribati, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Salomon Islands, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga, Timor Leste, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
Sam Ratulangi University is a state university in Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It was established on September 14, 1965.
